It hurts. Cracked or displaced rib from a skateboarding accident on the weekend. Thought it was a pulled muscle, but it worsened. Swimming tonight was so painful I was seeing stars and bursting out laughing from the adrenaline until I packed it in early.

Cracked ribs is not an excuse. That's an injury. Ouch!

i feel like "no time" is more common than all of these.
full time job + grad school makes it hard enough (but manageable) for me. i can't imagine the added responsibility of small human beings whose lives you are legally obligated to maintain, and other fully grown human beings who have a big rock on their finger that means "spend time with me".

@Ben_Jammin Great point. Time crunch is a tough one. Pretty much the reason I wasn't that involved in TRI for about 15 years. Just not enough time while the kids are young.

"Kids" is a legit excuse between the ages of six months (for men, because really, up to that point you are just in the way) and somewhere around 6 years old.

I'm not so certain those with "a big rock on their finger" necessarily think it means "spend time with me". I'm sure there are supportive wives out there who let their husbands train long hours without making them feel guilty (some may even encourage it for whatever reasons). And I'd bet there are wives out there training long hours while their husbands are at home. Spouses (and wives in particular) aren't necessarily a training excuse. Though, I agree your sentiments on the small human beings.... can't imagine how people manage training with children.
