@TheActualPaulo Fair enough. Although I believe upon closer inspection you might agree that article was not coming from the TriCan camp....

The reason there is not more scrutiny of TriCan in Canada is that triathlon is not played with a puck on ice wearing hockey skates. (Otherwise known as nobody gives a damn.)

$1million of taxpayer money squandered and nobody cares?

    From Triathlon Canada:
2015 OTP funding was about 500k, 21 per cent of operating budget
Cut 60 percent to 200k in 2016, now about 8 per cent of budget
This suggests a 5% increase in the operating budget year over year, and an annual budget roughly equal to what Ryf and Frodo took home (combined) in Kona last year.

I feel like I missed a post or TL;DR. What is the $1M squandered? (In Montreal, this is roughly one month's pothole repair budget for an untravelled pedestrian walkway, so it probably does not show up on anyone's radar.)

This . The figure is highly accurate, as is the descriptor.

Gwen is going to be huge in NBC Olympic coverage. If she wins gold, she will become a household name in the US.

She would have needed to have been robbed by cops at gun point in Rio to be a "household name".

Becoming a household name will require moving up to the marathon.

On a serious note, it was interesting how Jan Frodeno talked about the fact that wining Ironman was more impactful in terms of sponsors and media attention than winning Olympic Gold.

Henry Schuman won bronze and he barely has 2,000 twitter followers. Might get up to 3,000 after his South African victory tour.

    It's unfortunate.

I also think this is unfortunate, for me the ITU racing (and Olympic) is the best racing to watch. It is fast, tactical and takes about as much time as a more traditional sporting event on TV. I have loved long distance racing but watching it... lets just say it takes a lot, a lot or beer.

Gwen should start hanging out with Hope Solo for some real publicity.

I prefer ITU as well. The race coverage is superior and doesn't require a big time commitment. The main reason why I prefer ITU though is I like to watch the top athletes race each other multiple times each season. It's fun to see the athletes race through their ups and downs all season long.

If you think the level of cronyism you are dealing with in USA is a barrier -- you guys have *nothing* on Canada.

Thats where the real cronyism is.......

This. It's interesting how nobody talks about the stuff that happens with Triathlon Canada.

Did you just acknowledge a point made by a whiny little triathlete?

    Shut up, peasant.

I'm so honored. I might even put that quote in my signature because I'm so honored. Because thats what honored peasants do.

You sound a lot like @Aaron Webstey and @James Lange. You people are pathetic.

I would probably be insulted if I knew who either of those people are

Quoting because I like the gradient effect @Aaron Webstey has going on here.

Quoting to support @simonsen77 who is quoting to support the gradient effect. 51 shades of grey, here we come!
